Important terms for using CarCost.
Effective and last updated August 17, 2026
These terms are a practical pre-launch draft, not legal advice to the site owner. They should be reviewed by qualified counsel before public launch, especially before advertising, affiliate links, or paid partnerships are enabled.
1. Acceptance of these terms
By accessing or using CarCost, you agree to these Terms of Use and the Privacy notice. If you do not agree, do not use the site. You must be able to enter into a binding agreement where you live to use the site.
2. Educational planning tool only
CarCost provides general educational information and planning estimates. It does not provide financial, investment, tax, legal, insurance, lending, appraisal, mechanical, or vehicle-purchasing advice. Nothing on the site is a recommendation or solicitation to buy, sell, finance, lease, insure, or invest in any product, security, or vehicle.
CarCost is not a dealer, lender, lessor, broker, insurer, appraiser, manufacturer, investment adviser, fiduciary, or vehicle marketplace. Use qualified professionals and actual written quotes when advice or certainty is important.
3. Estimates, assumptions, and uncertainty
Results depend entirely on the information entered and the assumptions selected. Defaults and research summaries are broad planning inputs, not promises about a particular vehicle, transaction, location, or future date. Actual costs and values may differ materially.
- Prices, taxes, registration charges, incentives, fees, and insurance vary by person, dealer, lender, and location.
- Fuel, electricity, maintenance, repair, and warranty costs can change and may be irregular.
- Vehicle value depends on model, trim, mileage, condition, history, options, battery health, local demand, and future market conditions.
- Loan and lease calculations may not reflect every contract term, timing rule, fee, tax treatment, mileage charge, wear charge, or early-termination amount.
4. Investment and opportunity-cost scenarios
The optional investment comparison illustrates what cash-flow differences could become at a user-selected constant annual return. It is hypothetical. It does not predict market performance, account for investment taxes, fees, inflation, or volatility, or guarantee that money will be invested on time. Investments can lose value, and actual returns may be lower or higher.
Do not treat the cash-flow investment result as a guaranteed cost, return, or investment recommendation. Test a range of returns, including zero, and use an assumption consistent with your actual behavior and tolerance for risk.
5. Your responsibility before acting
You are responsible for reviewing inputs, testing reasonable alternatives, and verifying all material figures directly with the relevant dealer, lender, lessor, insurer, tax authority, service provider, or other source. A calculator result should be one input to a decision, not the decision itself.
6. Research, third-party data, and links
CarCost may summarize or link to government guidance, research, commercial datasets, and other third-party material. Third parties control their own content and may change it without notice. A citation or link does not mean that the third party endorses CarCost, or that CarCost endorses every view, product, or service on the linked site.
7. Advertising and affiliate relationships
CarCost may display advertising or use affiliate links. Paid, sponsored, or affiliate relationships will be identified where required. Advertising does not change calculator formulas or editorial conclusions. Unless stated otherwise, CarCost does not endorse advertised products and is not a party to transactions with advertisers or linked services.
8. Permitted and prohibited use
You may use the site for personal, lawful, non-commercial planning. You may not misuse the site, interfere with its operation, attempt unauthorized access, introduce malicious code, scrape it in a way that degrades service, misrepresent results, remove notices, or use its content to violate law or another person's rights.
9. Intellectual property
The site's original design, text, organization, code, graphics, and branding are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. Third-party names, marks, and materials belong to their respective owners. No rights are granted except the limited right to use the site under these terms.
10. Availability and changes
CarCost may correct, update, suspend, or discontinue features, assumptions, content, or access at any time. Results may change when formulas, defaults, sources, or user inputs change. There is no promise that the site will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or available indefinitely.
11. Disclaimer of warranties
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the site and its content are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, completeness, reliability, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or results from use.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, CarCost and its owner, contributors, and service providers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, lost savings, lost profits, loss of data, or losses arising from reliance on an estimate, inability to use the site, a third-party service, or a vehicle or financial decision. Rights and remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited remain unaffected.
13. Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated as the service, business model, or applicable requirements change. The updated effective date will appear at the top. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised terms to the extent permitted by law. A public contact channel for questions and legal notices will be published with the production domain before public launch.
